KnitKnitKnit!

30 Day Knitting Challenge…

Day 1: What was your first finished project?

A really, really heinous skinny rainbow garter scarf that changed widths at least ten times.

Day 2: What is currently on your needles?

A striped baby blanket for my niece’s first birthday present.

Day 3: Do you have any other WIPs (works in progress)?

Too many to list all of them. I’m terrible at setting projects down and forgetting about them. I’ve got one fingerless mitten finished and its mate is only just started, at least three unfinished scarves, and probably some other stuff as well.

Day 4: How did you learn how to knit?

Day 5: How long did it take you from the time you learned to knit, to finish your first project?
A few weeks.
Day 6: What is your favourite piece that you’ve knit?

Berry hat! (i’ve made three or four of these guys)

Day 7: Your least favourite?

An unfortunate, super chunky, too-short, grey ribbed hat. Or the perfect ribbed hat that got left and lost in a taxi, half-way finished. Too sad.

Day 8: What’s your most challenging project?

http://www.eunnyjang.com/knit/2006/11/endpaper_mitts.html I have put down the Endpaper Mitts at least five times. I cannot figure out colorwork =[

Day 9: What fiber or yarn do you love working with?

I love alpaca so very much. I want to work with soy silk.

Day 10: Do you have a favorite pattern or designer?

Day 11: Do you have a “Knitter Hero” or someone that is just way too awesome for their own good? Do share!

See above, or my friend Taylor, who inspired me to keep knitting and get better.

Day 12: Where do you keep your stash? Post pictures!

In drawers, lying about the house, everywhere. Quite unorganized, like the rest of my life.

Day 13: Do you have yarn that you love but can’t find a project for?

I was gifted a skein of a multicolored, warm-hued wool that is quite lovely, but I can’t think of anything I would wear that would only take 170-some yards in its particular colorway.

Day 14: What’s the worst yarn/fiber that you’ve worked with and why?

I’m not too into acrylic.

Day 15: What was your least favorite pattern and why?

I spent too long trying to figure out a wicked cool plaid blanket, but everything kept getting tangled that by the time I’d get to the next row, it’d take me longer to untangle than it did to knit a 220-stitch row.

Day 16: Have you ever had a knitting related injury?

Carpel Tunnel, probably.

Day 17: Have you ever had a project that you loved become ruined? What’s the story behind it?

My dog thinks he’s a cat around yarn.

Day 18: Do you knit English or Continental?

Continental.

Day 19: Do you watch movies and/or listen to podcasts while knitting? What are your favorite things to knit to?

I watch movies or tv. Doctor Who, definitely.

Day 20: Do you knit in public? Was anyone offended/incredibly happy/curious that you were doing so?

I love knitting on the subway, but really, I’ll knit anywhere. I’ve gotten some shit for knitting in bars, though. I don’t do that anymore.

Day 21: Do you knit gifts for friends and family for the holidays or birthdays?

Sometimes.

Day 22: Have you ever stricken someone off your to-knit-for list because they didn’t appreciate/take care of your last knitted gift to them?

I just finished a project for a close friend days before our friendship ended. I’ve been debating whether or not it would be cathartic to frog it, or if that would be too upsetting. It’s just sitting in my room staring at me. Otherwise, no.

Day 23: If you had the supplies (and patience) for it, what project would you start today?

Too many to pick from. Possible the fairy castles from TinyOwlKnits.

Day 24: Have you ever made your own pattern or dyed your own yarn? How did it turn out?

I used some leftover chunky alpaca once to whip up a neat little cabled headband/earwarmer. The next day, I walked past the Prada store on fifth ave and lo and behold, my headband was in the window display. True story.

Day 25: Do you have a knitting book or a place where you keep patterns, ideas, size measurements? Post a picture of it!

www.ravelry.com

Day 26: Have you ever been a part, or wanted to be a part of a knit-a-long? What was it? If not, why?

Nah. Why bother?

Day 27: How do you acquire most of yarn? Online retailers, local yarn shops, swaps, or large chain craft stores? What’s your favorite?

I’m a LYS junkie. My favorite in Sarasota is A Good Yarn, and my favorite in NYC is Purl, despite how overpriced it is, I love the energy and selection.

Day 28: Do you do any other crafts besides knitting? What are they, and did learning to knit come before or after learning these other crafts?

Not really. I’m capable of sewing, and I bake a whole bunch. Does that count?

Day 29: Do you have any tips, or things that you’ve learned from knitting?

Not really. I’m really only an intermediate knitter.

Day 30: What’s your name on Ravelry? If you don’t have a Ravelry account, why?
